season eight: everything you have to know

Game of Thrones fans get ready! The eighth and final season kicks off on April 14, and it will be bigger, bloodier and bolder than ever before. With Westeros’ new golden couple Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Daenerys
Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) preparing to take on the Night King and his undead army of White Walkers, producers confirm that there will be many major character deaths. Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark, says the end will be bittersweet. ‘I’m getting goosebumps now thinking about it,’ she spills.

THE BATTLE TO END THEM ALL

Season eight’s epic battle against the Night King and his Army of the Dead took 55 days to film in ‘sub-freezing temperatures’ across three separate locations! ‘It’s brutal. It makes the Battle of the Bastards look like a theme park,’ says Peter Dinklage, who plays Tyrion Lannister. ‘You are in for it. Truly.’

DANY TAKES OVER WINTERFELL

With Jon bringing his new lady love home to Winterfell, there will be some interesting moments between Daenerys and the Starks – especially his half-sister-cousin Sansa! Things looked mightily tense between the two in a recent teaser, which showed Sansa telling Dany icily, ‘Winterfell is yours, Your Grace.’ And then there’s the small matter of Jon not knowing that Dany
is actually his aunt. Awkward!

RETURN TO THE DRAGONPIT

The Dragonpit played a big part in season seven’s huge finale – and it looks
like we’ll be heading back for more!
Several actors have been seen near the Dragonpit set, which was built at the majestic Italica ruins in Seville, Spain. Want another spoiler? Word has it that
Tyrion will take centre stage.

WHAT’S WITH THOSE CRYPTS?

Dire fears were raised over the future of three of our favourite characters, when a trailer surfaced of Jon, Sansa and Arya (Maisie Williams) all encountering their own tombs in the Stark crypts. But Sophie assures fans that nothing is, er, written in stone – at least not yet. ‘It’s got nothing to do with the series. It’s just a promo,’ she insists.

NEW VISITORS TO KING’S LANDING

This one’s not a spoiler as much as a potential foretelling. Way back in season fourwe saw a brief scene of a dragon flying overKing’s
Landing in one of Bran Stark’s visions. Given that Bran’s predictions have away of coming true, could the RedKeep go up in flames?

GUESS WHO’S BACK!

It takes a lot of expensive visual effects to create Jon’s loyal (and giant!) pet direwolf, which is why Ghost has been MIA since the start of season six. But visual effects supervisor Joe Bauer confirms we’ll be seeing plenty of the intrepid canine in the final season. ‘He’s very present and does
some pretty cold things,’ he says.
